OT at Thrive Rehab:
Examples of OT Sexuality Referrals

Assessment of Current Sexual Health
and Intimacy Needs

Our therapists use tailored occupational therapy assessments, including the Occupational Performance Inventory of Sexuality and Intimacy (OPISI), to focus on the client's most important needs.

Responding to Sexualised Behaviours

We support clients, families, and caregivers in addressing sexualized behaviors, reframing them to reduce stigma and promote understanding. We work with the client's team to explore these behaviors from a person-centered, non-judgmental perspective.

Assessment of Current Sexual Knowledge

We offer the "Understanding Sexuality" assessment for clients with intellectual disabilities to evaluate their knowledge of sexuality and intimacy, allowing us to create a personalized education plan tailored to their learning style and needs.

Exploring the Use of Pornography

Our therapists help clients explore their use of pornography in a non-judgmental space, promoting a healthy relationship with sexual content and educating on the difference between fantasy and reality.

Exploring Intimacy and Pleasure

We assist clients in exploring pleasure and intimacy within their own bodies and with others. This includes practical strategies and support for discovering new ways to experience pleasure and connection. We help clients understand their bodies through education on the anatomy and physiology of the sexual response system, incorporating trauma-informed principles to ensure a safe, supportive environment for reengagement with one’s body and others.

Sensory and Neurodiversity Exploration

Our Sexuality, Intimacy, and Pleasure Toolkit (SIP) helps clients, especially neurodiverse individuals, explore how sensory processing affects pleasure and intimacy. It provides a safe, supportive way to understand and navigate these experiences.

Support for Engaging with Sex Workers

We guide clients in working with sex workers, helping them navigate the process with dignity. Our support covers expectations, finding suitable workers, and effective communication, enhancing intimacy and connection.

Sexual Health Education

We provide accessible sexual health education on anatomy, physiology, and the sexual response system, helping clients understand their bodies and how they function.
